I have learned not to listen to beauty gurus when it comes to concealers. Every YouTuber I watch is in love with the latest high end super high coverage concealer. Last year it was the Naked Skin concealer by Urban Decay (fell for that one, bought two) and now it’s the Tart Shape Tape concealer. Sure, those concealers will mask the fact you haven’t slept since (fill in the blanks), but they are also super thick, they crease and they are super expensive. They look great on camera and in photographs, but for everyday life they are just too much.
I have found a drugstore alternative that is still high in coverage, but has a more natural finish, blends like a dream and costs a fraction of those extremely popular concealers. And it’s cruelty free. I’m talking about the Liquid Camouflage Concealer from Catrice.
The Swatch
The Liquid Camouflage Concealer from Catrice comes in five shades: light natural (05), natural rose (07), porcelain (010), honey (015) and light beige (020). I use the shade porcelain. For reference: I am usually the lightest or second lightest shade of foundation. The shade range is obviously lacking in diversity, so hopefully Catrice will come out with some darker shades. The consistency of the concealers is thicker than foundation (not a runny or watery liquid, it stays put), but it’s still super bendable.
The effect
You can easily use it on a no makeup makeup day, as your base. Yet as a concealer it gives you all the coverage you need. If I want to look 100% airbrushes I will do some colour correcting before I put on my foundation, but I find that most of the time a little bit of the Liquid Camouflage Concealer from Catrice does the trick. It makes me look less tired and more awake and it’s a great base for eyeshadow.
I do find that it lasts better (less creasing) if I set it, with a powder, immediately after I apply it. I also noticed that using a moisturizing eye cream underneath my makeup will make the concealer look less dry at the end of the day. Dry looking concealer sets into the fine lines around your eyes and makes you look older.
The Liquid Camouflage Concealer from Catrice costs around €3,60 at the drugstore. For my Dutchies: it’s available at Kruidvat.
