Empties Part 17: What (not) to buy next

Time to go through my beauty trash again! I have nine products in the category natural cosmetics and one product that I am saying goodbye to because it’s not cruelty free (and not natural). It’s not an easy goodbye because it is a “great” product, in the sense that it works really well. But in the end, other things are more important to me and there are amazing, natural and cruelty free alternatives that are just as good/even better.

Products I recommend are linked. Links are pink.

Natural Cosmetics: Skincare

Balm Balm Face Balm: I love Balm Balm. It has become one of my favorite natural brands over the past eight months. This face balm, that doubles as a baby cream (yes, Balm Balm is thΓ‘t pure and natural), is very rich and calming. It contains only what’s necessary. Because it is based on Jojoba oil and Shea butter I wouldn’t recommend it to people with oily skin though.

Dr. Hauschka Hand Cream: You all know I love Dr. Hauschka. This hand cream is probably the best hand cream I have ever used. It smells amazing, it makes my hands feel very soft and hydrated, but also very smooth. I have quite “wrinkly” hands, because they are sun damaged. This hand cream makes my hands look younger.

Rituals Body Lotion: Who doesn’t like Rituals? That would be like saying you don’t like little puppies. Even though Rituals isn’t a 100% natural cosmetics brand, they do invest in sustainability and recycling. Rituals products make the perfect gift and they are cruelty free. I loved using this body lotion.

NaΓ―f Body Lotion: I mentioned this before in my Empties posts: I like NaΓ―f, but I don’t love it. That’s because the scents aren’t great, the feel is nice but not fantastic. It’s all just “fine”. I let Isaya use the mini’s when she “does her makeup” at her vanity table, because I know there is no crap in the products.

Daily Natural Products

Aromed Nose Inhaler: Whenever I have a cold and use a spray with xylo I get addicted. This Aromed Nose Inhaler was one of the products that helped me get over yet another xylo-addiction. It doesn’t work wonders, but it does make me feel like I can breathe. I put a little bit on a soft cloth and keep it on my pillow during the night.

Weleda Toothpaste: I mentioned this before, but we have found our holy grail natural toothpaste. The Weleda Rathania toothpaste is perfect. It tastes nice, it refreshes and it keeps my teeth clean. Isaya loves her Weleda children’s toothpaste as well. Considering you brush your child’s teeth twice a day, every single day, you want to make sure there is no crap in there. Weleda is 100% natural, so a safe yet effective choice.

Bamboo Toothbrushes: We ditched our plastic toothbrushes permanently, about a year ago and I never want to go back. Bamboo brushes are a great alternative for contributing to the plastic soup. We use Humble Brush for Isaya (because they have a pink one) and Next Brush for ourselves (because they have a “hard” version and they are slightly more affordable than Humble Brush).

Aquaint Sanitizing Water: If you are a parent, babysitter, grandparent, teacher, caretaker, nurse or doctor (or any other human being that interacts with children or sick people) you need this in your life. Aquaint is a 100% natural sanitizing water. It’s completely safe (they can even swallow it) and you can use it on hands, toys, pacifiers and anything else you want to keep germ free. You can read my review here with links to wear you can shop.

Foundation Empties

Diorskin Forever Foundation: This foundation is one of the best foundations out there. You can read my Diorskin Forever Foundation review here. But, Dior is not a cruelty free brand. I think this is such a shame. So many brilliant high end makeup brands still test on animals or sell in Mainland China, where animal testing is mandatory. It is sΓ³ unnecessary. Brands like Charlotte Tilbury are a testament to that.

Boho Compact Foundation: I looooove this natural & cruelty free foundation. It has become one of my all time favorite foundations. The fact that it’s compact yet creamy is a bliss. It means I can do a light layer or build up coverage in a matter of minutes. It is so convenient and the finish is incredible: natural yet it covers everything perfectly. I even use it as concealer. I wouldn’t recommend it for oily skin though as it is quite dewy.
