A few weeks ago I went to a lovely vegan lunch, hosted by the INIKA. INIKA is a 100% natural cosmetics brand, that produces high quality make-up with exclusively vegan, cruelty free and halal ingredients. The products I’m reviewing in this blog also contain up to 83% organic ingredients. This brand is green! They call themselves “The healthiest make-up brand in the world”. So obviously I was very excited to test and review their pure primer, the liquid foundation and the perfection concealer. In this INIKA foundation review I am creating a flawless base with these products and sharing my thoughts on the brand and the products. And there is a 20% discount code as well!
INIKA Organic: Healthy is Beautiful
As I mentioned in the intro, INIKA is a 100% natural cosmetics brand. They have a certified organic Australia quality label, which assures the products contain at least 70% organic ingredients. They are also certified vegan and cruelty free. And INIKA is halal. INIKA believes health and beauty go hand in hand and promote an eco-conscious lifestyle for make-up lovers all over the world. They pride themselves on not compromising on the quality of the make-up, in order to create natural make-up.
Also good to know: INIKA products are free from silicones, alcohol, paragons, petrochemicals, GMO’s, sulphates and other harmful substances. All of this sounds amazing, if you ask me. As a green beauty blogger INIKA meets all of my wishes on paper. So, let see if they are met “in product” as well!
The INIKA Organic Pure Primer
The Pure Primer promises to create a luminous, even base, to prep the skin for foundation and also make your foundation last longer. It contains hyaluronic acid (which holds 1000 times its weight in water), for long lasting hydration. This primer contains 83% organic ingredients and essential oils including Apricot, Coconut, Jojoba and Lavender.
The feel
You use one pump, after moisturizing and before foundation. The pure primer smells really lovely and is easy to apply evenly. It has that silicone-feel that non-natural primers have, expect obviously it doesn’t contain any silicones. After you’ve applied it your skin feels a bit sticky. You need to wait that out, before applying your foundation. This takes no more than a few minutes and once the primer has sunk into your skin you are left with a soft, smooth “canvas”.
The effect
It’s very hard for me to find a primer that works for my skin. They either dry out my skin or make my skin feel greasy. Unfortunately the Pure Primer falls into that latter category for me. After wearing it for a while my skin feels a bit tacky and like it can’t breathe well enough. And I guess it can’t because I broke out three times after using this primer.
Myfinalthoughts on this primer
Breakouts can have multiple causes, so I can’t be 100% sure the primer is the cause, until I’ve used it for several weeks. And the tackiness does disappear completely after I apply powder, so you will definitely see my end-review in one of my empties post.
INIKA Foundation review
The INIKA foundation I am reviewing is their liquid foundation, with hyaluronic acid. So again, a product with highly moisturizing and hydrating properties. The foundation contains 73% organic ingredients and skin-caring botanicals, including Green Tea, Lavender and Argan Oil.
The shades
I use the shade “cream” which is the lightest neutral toned liquid foundation shade. “Porcelain” is lighter but has a pink undertone, which doesn’t suit my skin tone. In wintertime I could use a shade lighter than “cream”, but it’s nothing a little bit of concealer can’t fix. In the liquid foundation range, there are 8 shades, with “cacao” as the darkest shade, for deep skin tones.
The feel
This is such an interesting formula! When you put it on the back of your hand it’s not necessarily thin or “runny”. It’s not one of those foundations that walks right off the back of your hand. It has a good consistency. But when you put it on your skin you notice it is actually quite thin!
The effect
I think this specific formula is why the foundation melts into your skin so well and gives that natural finish. It is a medium coverage foundation: it hides imperfections but not heavy pigmentation or acne. I also need a little bit of extra help for my undereyes (because #momlife). This is definitely a “your skin but (way) better” kind of foundation!
My thoughts on this foundation
The longest I’ve worn the primer and foundation combo so far is 6 hours (three times). I have also worn it in the rain (twice). It lasts very well. There is no “end of the day” look. My make-up looks exactly the same when I take it off, as when I put it on.
INIKA Perfection Concealer
So, let’s see if the perfection concealer can help with those mommy bags under my eyes. The perfection concealer is a light-reflecting concealer with Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil and Aloe Vera. It contains 73% organic ingredients. And of course, like the other products it is 100% natural, vegan, cruelty free and halal.
The feel
This is a thin, light weight concealer. I use the shade “Very Light”, which is the lightest of the three available shades. The concealer sinks into the skin and into your foundation really well: they become one.
The effect
But maybe a little bit too much… Even though this concealer does a nice job concealing some of my imperfection and highlight areas I want to highlight, it doesn’t meet my concealer-needs. When I use concealer I use it because I need to cover up “something serious”. That’s dark undereyes, dark pigmentation spots and acne.
My thoughts on this concealer
It is not a high coverage concealer and therefore not 100% suited for my needs, without colour correcting first. But, I’ve noticed that if I use the (high)light shade from the INIKA baked contour duo underneath my eyes – on top of the concealer – I do look more awake.

My INIKA Make-up Look
This is the make-up look I created for this INIKA foundation review. Apart from the primer, foundation and concealer I also used the INIKA baked contour duo (you can read my review on that beauty here!). I didn’t edit out the imperfection, so you can see the spots the make-up wasn’t able to cover up. [did slap a filter on the photo’s though #giveagirlabreak ] [easy-image-collage id=22750]
Love this Kari! And I love Iniki too. Currently testing out the primer, liquid foundation and mineral powders and so far like them very much. I don’t think the primer is for me either – I can “feel” it too much on my skin. Thanks for your honest thoughts! Xo
Thank you sweet Helen! How exciting you are testing the primer and foundation as well! Good to know we are on the same page about the primer. And I can’t wait to hear how you like the mineral powders. Mineral make-up is something I want to get into more! x Kari
